Summer is a busy time for Minnesotans as we travel throughout the Highway 23 corridor to enjoy the beautiful weather, lakes and much needed family and friends time outdoors. You may have encountered some of the different places in Highway 23 that are under construction, including the North Gap and South Gap projects, during your travels. Although the travels may be disrupted with these detours, we look forward to the future safer, more efficient transportation routes once the projects are complete. Even during the summer months, the Highway 23 Coalition is working hard to advocate for a safer 4-lane Highway 23 Corridor.
The Highway 23 Coalition Coordinator, Tracy Duininck, chimes in on what the Coalition has been working on these past couple months in this Summer 2023 Coordinator Update.
Summer 2023 Coordinator Update
Quarter two has been a busy one for the Highway 23 Coalition. We held our Annual Membership Meeting in Mora on April 14, with Congressman Pete Stauber addressing the group. Our Legislative Committee has been to Washington, D.C. putting our priority projects on the desks of legislators. This committee is also diving into some new legislation, and getting a better understanding of how the new laws will affect funding of projects going forward. We have added four new Platinum Members in the past few months, private businesses who share our vision of a safer, more effective Hwy 23. As always, we look to expand our reach to members in our north and south regions. Several new Highway 23 Board members came on board in quarter two, and are quickly learning the ropes and bringing new expertise and vision to the group.
Despite busy summer schedules, we are already addressing some agenda items for 2024, including the city and venue for the Annual Membership Meeting next Spring. Our membership committee is getting information to various counties along the corridor so that they can include membership renewal into the 2024 budgets.
We want to wish everyone a safe summer season of travel throughout our beautiful state!
