The Highway 23 North Gap Open House was held on April 6 at the Roadside Tavern in Roscoe, Minnesota. About 200 people attended during the two hour event to learn more about the project from the Minnesota Department of Transportation staff and the project contractor. The upcoming construction of the Paynesville to Richmond 4-lane expansion project is set to start mid-May after the Groundbreaking Celebration.
Groundbreaking Coming May 6, 2022

Detour Information
The Highway 23 North Gap project is approximately 9 miles between the cities of Paynesville to Richmond that will take the current two lane road and transform it into a four lane transportation system. This gap project will also focus on safety improvements needed along this section of the corridor. As the project begins, there will be detours occurring throughout the route.
Highway 23 Main Detour
This section of the detour is expected to occur from mid-May through October 2022 then finalized May through October 2023. Highway 23 will be closed from 263rd Ave in Paynesville to County Road 12 (Maine St/CR 43) in Richmond. The detour will use County Road 33 in Paynesville, County Road 32 and County Road 12 (Maine St) in Richmond.
County Road 43 Richmond Detour
This detour is expected to begin June through August of 2022. The roads will be closed between Highway 23 and Fellows Road to replace a culvert. Drivers of this path will utilize Highway 22 during this detour.
County Road 12 Detour (Maine Street, Richmond)
The dates of this detour will be announced once confirmed. It is anticipated to occur for two weeks in 2023.

The environmental review for the Highway 23 North Gap project began in June of 2015. As we begin transitioning into the construction phase of this project, please join us in celebrating this accomplishment.
