Hwy 23 Green Valley Bridge Project Begins May 12

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is set to begin the Hwy 23 Green Valley bridge project on Monday, May 12, 2025. This critical infrastructure improvement will enhance safety and longevity on one of southwest Minnesota’s most heavily traveled corridors.

Project Overview

The Hwy 23 Green Valley bridge project focuses on two bridges just north of Marshall, where Hwy 23 crosses the Redwood River and Threemile Creek—located roughly 4.3 and 6.1 miles north of the Hwy 19 junction.

Crews will:

  • Resurface both bridge decks
  • Replace the approach panels
  • Upgrade guardrails to current safety standards

These updates are essential for maintaining safe, reliable infrastructure along Hwy 23 and will deliver a smoother driving experience for thousands of daily travelers.

Traffic Impacts

To complete the improvements safely, MnDOT will detour Hwy 23 traffic starting May 12. Drivers will be rerouted via County Road 9 and Hwy 19. The detour will remain in place until the project wraps up near September 1, 2025.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and stay alert for directional signage throughout the duration of construction.

Project Timeline

  • Construction begins May 12, 2025
  • Construction ends Sept. 1, 2025

Project Benefits

This $1.5 million investment, led by PCiRoads LLC, aims to:

  • Extend the service life of both bridges
  • Reduce future maintenance needs
  • Enhance safety for all users

Improvements like this ensure Hwy 23 remains a dependable route for both local residents and commercial traffic in the Green Valley area.
